Депутат Европейского парламента Витольд Ващиковский назвал «бессмысленным наказанием» предложенные Советом Евросоюза персональные санкции против России по делу Алексея Навального, учредителя Фонда борьбы с коррупцией (ФБК, включен Минюстом в реестр организаций, выполняющих функции иностранного агента). Его слова приводит телеканал Euronews.

По словам евродепутата из Польши, предложенные ограничения — «даже не символические санкции». «Всего несколько человек не пустят в Евросоюз. Большинству из этих людей никогда не позволили бы поехать в ЕС, потому что они либо члены партии, либо сотрудники спецслужб. Так что это очень бессмысленное наказание для России», — подчеркнул Ващиковский.

В понедельник, 22 февраля, стало известно, что Совет Евросоюза принял решение ввести санкции против лиц, связанных с осуждением Навального. Тогда глава дипломатии Евросоюза Жозеп Боррель назвал Россию «соседом, который, однако, ведет себя как политический противник». Позже он рассказал, что Брюссель подготовит новые антироссийские санкции в течение недели.

2 февраля Симоновский суд Москвы заменил Навальному условный срок на реальный за нарушение условий соблюдения испытательного срока по делу «Ив Роше». УФСИН попросило назначить ему наказание в виде лишения свободы в колонии сроком на 3,5 года. Навального обвинили в 60 нарушениях общественного порядка после условного приговора. В колонии он пробудет 2 года 8 месяцев с учетом года, проведенного под домашним арестом во время предварительного следствия по делу «Ив Роше».

В декабре 2014 года Навальный был приговорен к 3 годам 6 месяцам лишения свободы условно со штрафом в 500 тысяч рублей по обвинению в совершении мошеннических действий и легализации денежных средств, приобретенных преступным путем (по делу «Ив Роше»). Его брат Олег получил тот же срок, но реальный.
