Кандидат на пост главы Центрального разведывательного управления (ЦРУ), бывший посол США в Москве Уильям Бернс признался, что стал седым из-за России. Об этом сообщает USA Today.

По его словам, большая часть его седых волос появилась из-за того, что он занимался Россией. Он предупредил, что «США не должны недооценивать угрозу, которая исходит от России и президента Владимира Путина».

Позднее официальный представитель Кремля Дмитрий Песков оценил высказывания Бернса. Он сказал, что «не силен в геронтологии», поэтому предпочтет воздержаться от каких-то комментариев. При этом Песков отметил, что Бернс умело руководил посольством и хорошо понимал Россию, передает РБК.

Ранее Бернс отнес Россию к числу «ослабевающих держав». По его словам, во время президентства нынешнего главы государства Москва обладает такими же возможностями, как и «восходящие державы» вроде Китая.

Кандидатуру Бернса на пост главы разведуправления выдвинул действующий глава Белого дома Джо Байден.
