Оперный певец и народный артист СССР Евгений Нестеренко скончался на 84-м году жизни, сообщил ТАСС со ссылкой на генерального директора благотворительного фонда поддержки музыкального искусства "Фонд Елены Образцовой" Наталью Игнатенко.

По ее словам, в фонд поступило письмо от семьи певца, в котором говорилось, что он умер в Вене после госпитализации с тяжелой формой заражения коронавирусом COVID-19. "В ситуации пандемии мы не можем подвергать опасности ничье здоровье и даже жизни (у нас карантин) и приняли решение об отказе от публичной церемонии и встреч с близкими на ближайшее время", - сказано в письме семьи певца.

Евгений Нестеренко родился 8 января 1938 года в Москве. В 1965 году окончил Ленинградскую государственную консерваторию имени Н. А. Римского-Корсакова. С 1971 по 2000 год был солистом Большого театра в Москве и Ленинградского театра оперы и балета им. С.М. Кирова (ныне Мариинский театр в Санкт-Петербурге).

Также выступал в "Метрополитен-опера", "Ла Скала", "Ковент-Гарден" и Венской государственной опере. В последние годы певец проживал в Вене.
